Delivering consistent—and increasing—energy savings
Connexus Energy, Minnesota’s largest customer-owned utility, began sending Home Energy Reports to 40,000 customers in February 2009. The reports and accompanying web portal are designed to help Connexus achieve a 1.5% savings goal by motivating participating co-op members to save energy. Within 6 months of our program launch, report recipients had a savings rate of more than 2%, with savings increases every month.
Delivering Cost Effective Energy Efficiency at Scale
The Opower platform offered a cost-effective way for Connexus to meet its energy efficiency targets. In 2010, the Opower program accounted for 25% of Connexus’ efficiency budget, while it produced more than 50% of the energy savings the co-op had targeted in its Conservation Improvement plan.
Home Energy Reports Drive the Highest Savings During the Winter Heating Season
Connexus members have heavy winter electricity loads; savings during these months are higher than average.
