Opower Wins at European Smart Metering Awards

Opower’s Innovative Customer Engagement Platform Earns the Smart Meter Data Management & Solutions Award

LONDON, UK – January 24, 2013 – Opower, the global leader in customer engagement solutions for the utility industry, today announced that it has been named the winner of the Smart Meter Data Management & Solutions Award at this year’s European Smart Metering Awards.  The European Smart Metering Awards 2013 recognises excellence in smart metering and attracts entries from a number of well-established and emerging companies in the utilities space.

The judges recognised both the potential and realised impact of Opower’s customer engagement platform, Opower 4, which reinvents the way utilities interact with customers – from the quality of the information provided, to the way it is presented and delivered.  The platform helps people use energy more efficiently and ultimately save money on their energy bills, vastly improving the overall customer experience by making energy use personally relevant and accessible. Earlier today, Opower announced that it has saved customers more than 2 terawatt hours of energy, enough to power a city of 500,000 people.

In the UK, Opower works with First Utility, the country’s largest independent domestic energy provider, to bring its my:energy program to over 100,000 customers. First Utility customers receive information on how their energy usage compares to their neighbours, together with personalised tips on how to reduce energy consumption. First Utility was Opower’s first international partner.

The winning company had to demonstrate a solid growth platform for future expansions and innovative means of assessing and utilising data, as well as being able to deal with the huge volume of data received from smart meters.
