Social Energy: Can social media play a big role in helping people save energy?

01 Thursday, December 01, 2011, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM EST

The proliferation of social media networks creates a tremendous opportunity to facilitate powerful movements. It seems that not much time passes between news events and new examples of people using social media to connect with similarly minded peers to express their opinions and sometimes have very real world impact.

In this lead-off event of Opower’s “The Power of Energy Information” webinar series, Opower’s Director of Product, Wayne Lin will be joined by Marcy Scott Lynn from Sustainability at Facebook. They'll discuss the opportunity to use the world’s largest social network as a new way to encourage dialogue around the use of energy in people’s homes and drive action for the betterment of the environment. Wayne will discuss its importance in the shifting internet landscape, provide an overview of Opower’s recently announced social energy app, and talk about how utilities can use social media to improve relationships with their customers and make energy efficiency easy and fun for them.

Utility partners, communications and marketing professionals, and those with a passion for social media will find this webinar particularly valuable.

Topics will include:

  • Social media trends and its impact on the Internet
  • Use of social media in a business context
  • How utilities can adopt social media and gamification to enhance customer engagement
  • How people can connect across distances to rally behind a more energy efficient lifestyle
