A bona fide Opower tradition, now in its third year! Started by a small group of hirsute efficiency warriors — and now embraced by the entire company (including staff of all genders) — Cinco de Moustache involves not shaving for the month before Cinco de Mayo. On May 5th, beards disappear as people bring their most creative moustaches (and costumes) to work.

The public face of Opower, these industry veterans are at work in all 50 states and abroad, helping utilities help their customers become more energy efficient. They also explore partnerships that will help expand and increase our effectiveness in the future. When it comes showing how Opower works and how we drive energy efficiency gains to new heights, this is the team that does it.
Our Product & UX team is responsible for making sure our product delivers on the promise of energy efficiency through behavioral change. A perpetual innovation machine, they imagine new product features to strengthen customer engagement, expand our markets, and put Opower at the forefront of the energy-efficiency ecosystem—ultimately redefining the way millions engage with and understand their day-to-day energy usage. The team is also creating a new software development culture in DC, one latte at a time.
Our engineers are responsible for building a system capable of analyzing the energy use of more than 20 million households. They're adept at using a variety of tools—from Java, Ruby, Scala, and jQuery to HTML5 and CSS3. And through our Agile development process, they're able to deliver a new version of our platform every three weeks! What's best about this team is its depth: it includes both front-end and back-end engineers and QA, all working in unison to deliver innovative features that scale for millions of people.
This is the team behind the Opower brand, PR, corporate website, sales materials, white papers, market research, and the meaning of the letter 'O'. The Corporate Marketing & Strategy team is responsible for deciphering industry trends, driving product strategy, defining our value proposition, keeping an eye on competition, and conducting ongoing corporate strategy reviews. They are also in charge of making sure that our positive impact on the efficiency industry and the environment does not go unnoticed through advertising, press outreach, conferences, events, promotions, and collateral.
Experts in energy regulation, this team works closely with public utility commissions in the US and abroad to promote information-enabled energy efficiency. Made up of policy wonks, attorneys, and industry experts, they help establish behavior-based measurement and verification methodologies, open new markets for behavioral efficiency, and ensure that our clients receive full credit for their efficiency savings.
This team manages Opower's software deployments and ongoing client engagements, ensuring that our platform successfully connects with utility infrastructure, gathers energy-usage data from millions of households, and generates personalized messages for consumers in order to maximize energy savings. Made up of engagement managers, technical project managers, and professional services engineers, this rare combination of MBAs and computer scientists is in charge of managing our day-to-day relationships with our utility clients and making sure our product is properly deployed, optimized, and continually upgraded within a client's service territory to drive maximum customer engagement and efficiency gains.

In addition, our in-house measurement and verification efforts are conducted by this team—ensuring that the energy savings we're delivering are properly documented for our utility partners.
